【ぶっ返り】

【BUKKAERI】

Bukkaeri, performed when revealing one’s true self, in “Kiichihogen Sanryaku no Maki”. Onoe Kikugoro 7th as Okurakyo. November, 1985 at the National Theatre.
It is a type of “Hikinuki” to change costumes instantaneously. The costumes can be changed by removing a thread used for basting the upper part of the dress and letting the loosened part drop below the waist. This is a technique called “Miarawashi” for the character to reveal his concealed true self.
The video shows an appearance of Ichijo Okurakyo in “Kiichihogen Sanryaku no Maki”. Okurakyo has concealed his true self by “Tsukuri Aho (pretending to be fool)” since long ago, and “Bukkaeri” is used to make an impression that he reveals his true self at this very moment.
