It is the place for performances in front of the audience seats and is made of Japanese cypress boards. The picture shows the stage in the National Theatre, which has the width (called Maguchi) of about 21 meters and the depth of about 26 meters. It seems that the depth is quite long, but it is because of the depth a stage set to be used can be assembled behind the ongoing performance, enabling a quick change of scenes.
