Sagisaka Bannai (Onoe Shoroku 2nd).
This is a name for the roles with the elements of villain and comical characters, making the audience laugh with comical gestures or lines, while appearing as a villain role. The character is called this way to stand for “a villain that is half clown”. He may wear “Namazukuma”, a type of Zareguma makeup, and come on stage in an apparently comical appearance. The chief examples include so-called “Namazubozu” in the Kabuki-Juhachiban “Shibaraku” and Sagisaka Bannai in “Kanadehon Chushingura”.
