Tsuruya Nanboku 4th (1755~1829)
He was a Kabuki author who developed his career in the late Edo period. He specialized in Kizewamono, describing the life of townsmen at that time in a lively and realistic manner. He incorporated a great deal of Keren elements, such as eccentric devises, instantaneous change of clothes, and so on, into his works, leading him to gain popularity. He produced “Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan” among others plays, many of which are still performed today.
