【TSUZUKIKYOGEN】

  • Early Tsuzuki-Kyogen play “Imagawa Shinobi Guruma”. “Kokon Yakusha Monogatari” by Kisho Fukuseikai (group of reproducing extremely valuable books). Owned by the National Theatre.
It is a term for the play to perform one long story divided into several acts, as opposed to “Hanare-Kyogen”, a single-act play performed in the early years of Kabuki. It is said that the origin of Tsuzuki-Kyogen goes back to the Kanbun period (1661~1672). During the Genroku period, this type of Kyogen became longer and more complex, requiring professional Kyogen-Sakusha who specialized in writing scripts.
