Taira no Atsumori (1169~1184)
He was a general in the late Heian period. As a general of the Heike clan, he fought against the Genji clan. He met his end by being killed in the battle of Ichinotani by Kumagai Naozane, a general on the Genji side.
This story came to be well known as it is described in the Heike Monogatari, and also taken up in Kabuki and Ningyo-Joruri (puppet play). The picture shows a scene in “Ichinotani Futaba Gunki”, a representative work in which the battle is dramatized.
