In the Edo period, the type of formal dress for samurai was determined by ranks. And the formal dress of Daimon was reserved for ordinary daimyos appointed to the fifth rank. The attire has a family crest largely dyed in both chests, and is worn with a long Hakama and an Eboshi hat.
Daimon is also used in Kabuki as the formal attire in samurai families. A crest is dyed more largely than in the real use, and the sleeves are made longer in an exaggerated manner. Daimon worn by Kamakura Gongoro in “Shibaraku” represents especially bold exaggerations.
