This Kumadori makeup is also worn by Kamakura Gongoro, the leading role in the Kabuki-Juhachiban play “Shibaraku”. Sujiguma is a representative Kumadori reserved for the Aragoto characters. Other examples include Soga no Goro who appears in the Kabuki-Juhachiban plays “Oshimodoshi” and “Yanone”.
First, the face is painted white with powder and lines are drawn in red upon it as illustrated. Then, Kuma of a triangular shape is shaded off around the thin and painted red along the line of the thin. Each eyebrow is drawn in black to be flipped up outward by assessing the balance with the two lines drawn in red on both sides of the forehead.
