It refers to a heartbreaking scene in which little children and parents must be inevitably separated. This is one of the highlights in Kabuki. In many cases, the scene is about a mother leaves her child. The grief is expressed in a formal acting to the sound of the Shamisen. The famous examples include the separation scenes of Shigenoi in “Koinyobo Somewake Tazuna” and Kuzunoha in “Ashiyadoman Ouchikagami”.
