This play is one of the Kabuki-Juhachiban plays that is considered being premiered by Ichikawa Danjuro 4th in 1760, who performed Kagekiyo’s ghost. The play is said to deal with Kagekiyo, appearing at first as a young girl to show his grievance and then revealing his true self as a ghost.
It had long been abandoned until Ichikawa Sadanji 2nd revived it in 1915. Most recently, Danjuro 12th performed at the National Theatre in 1992.
