It is one of the representative works of Genroku Kabuki, which is an O-ie sodo mono. The play was premiered in Kyoto in January of 1698. Nakamura Shichisaburo, a famous actor in Edo, performed the leading role, joined by Yoshizawa Ayame 1st and Yamashita Hanzaemon 1st. The acting of “Yatsushi” by Shichisaburo who specialized in the Wagoto style was praised by the audience in Kyoto, and the performance continued for 120 days to make a great hit.
