  • “Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan”, a representative Kizewamono written by Nanboku. Matsumoto Koshiro 8th (Matsumoto Hakuo 1st) as Iemon, Bando Yagoro 2nd as Takuetsu, and Nakamura Kanzaburo 17th as Oiwa. September, 1971 at the National Theatre. (Y_E0100043000046)
It refers to the Sewamono plays that are acted and directed in a realistic manner, which were produced by Tsuruya Nanboku 4th and Kawatake Mokuami. The life of the people at that time is vividly described and expressed through directing and acting with a sense of the real life.
Today, we have TV dramas focusing on fashionable cloths and vogue words. The Kizewamono dramas in the Edo period can be categorized as a similar kind of works.
