A theater in Ginza, Tokyo opened in 1889. Since then, such great actors as Ichikawa Danjuro 9th, Onoe Kikugoro 5th, and Ichikawa Sadanji 1st appeared on stage, and the theatre has served as a center of numerous Kabuki theatres.
The current building was opened in 2013, seating 1,904 from the 1st to 4th floors. The 4th floor is called Maku-mi-seki (seats for a single act), which enables a spectator to see a performance act by act at a low rate. Since 1990, it has been the only theatre to offer Kabuki performances throughout the year.
