She appears as a girl character in “Date Musume Koi no Higanoko” and her model is a real girl who was condemned to criminal punishment in the act of starting fires in 1638. This incident was taken up by many Kabuki or Ningyo-Joruri (puppet play), and she is described as an innocent town girl who is driven to foolishness because she loves Kichisaburo, a boy-servant in a temple.
As illustrated in the picture, a long-sleeved Furisode and long kimono sash called “Furisage” hanging long behind the body, are a set of costume typical for a town girl in Kabuki plays.
