Ichikawa Danjuro 2nd
【市川團十郎[2代目]】
【ICHIKAWADANJURO】
Ichikawa Danjuro 2nd(1688~1758)
He was the oldest son of Ichikawa Danjuro 1st. Having lost his father at an early age, he succeeded the name of his father when he was 16. Thanks to his face and physique that looked like the father, and through hard training, he made the name of Danjuro more widely known.
He managed to sophisticate the Aragoto style by specializing in such plays as “Sukeroku”, “Kenuki”, and “Yanone”. His focus also included the Wagoto style: he incorporated the style into “Sukeroku” as is seen on stage today.
