It is one of the representative families in the Kamigata region during the Edo period. Arashi Kichisaburo 1st became the head of actors in Osaka and Kyoto in the mid-Edo period, and specialized in Wagoto and Fukeyaku (elderly characters). Arashi Kichisaburo 2nd (later Arashi Rikan 1st) and Kichizaburo 3rd were famous as a master of Tachiyaku in the Kamigata region. Rikan 2nd managed a variety of roles including Onnagata.
