Songs, dances (mai and odori), and plays performed by people at festivals and events that are part of regional life, plus the festivals and events themselves, are known as Japanese Folk Performance.
These performances are led by local people, and have come to strongly reflect local climates and beliefs as they are passed down in different areas of Japan.
