Masks and Costumes
Depending on the Noh play, simple stage props called “tsukurimono” are used.
In Noh, scenes are principally evoked on an empty stage by the actors’ performance, dance, and utai (chanting), and large stage sets are not utilized. Depending on the play, however, simple stage props called “tsukurimono” are utilized. A prop consisting solely of a bamboo or wooden frame wrapped in a cloth is used to represent, for example, buildings such as a house or palace, vehicles such as a boat or ox cart, or a well.
