Nakamura Ganjiro 3rd (Sakata Tojuro 4th) as Konoshita Tokichi, in fact Mashiba Hisayoshi, Nakamura Shinjiro (Nakamura Kinnosuke 2nd) as Kitota, Nakamura Tomijuro 5th as Matsunaga Daizen, Nakamura Jakuemon 4th as Yukihime. It was premiered as a Ningyo-Joruri (puppet play) at Toyotakeza Theatre in Osaka in 1757 and turned into a Kabuki play in the following year. Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s activities are active dramatized in this play.
Today, the 4th part that is commonly called “Kinkakuji” is performed. Yukihime (snow princess) in this scene is one of the representative princess characters called “Sanhime (three princesses)”. Matsunaga Daizen is a villain who tries to take over the country and is considered a representative example of the role called “Kunikuzushi”, particularly a big-scale villain among the villain roles.
